Today’s piece is about Correct posture for bobbin lace without ruining your back. If you’ve been at this a while you may already know; if you’re starting, even better: you’ll save yourself the suffering I went through.
Speed comes with practice. Not before. Right first, then fast If you fancy, I’ll leave Introduction to fish motif.
First things first: get comfortable. Pillow at chest height, feet on the floor, shoulders down. Start tense, finish tense.
What you will need¶
You’ll need this, nothing more, nothing less:
- Pillow at sternum height.
- Straight-back chair.
- Feet flat, knees at 90°.
- Front or 30° side light.
How I do it, step by step¶
Don’t skip any. Everything links in this craft:
- Every 25 min, stretch shoulders and neck.
- Wrist rotations hourly.
- Alternate long with short sessions.
Where it gets sticky¶
These are the stumbles I see most often:
- Pillow on lap: catastrophic.
- Tilting head over 30°.
- Cold overhead light: eye strain.
Variations¶
When you have it under control, try these:
- Change the thread weight.
- Try two colours.
- Add more pairs.
