About me

Hello, I’m Carmiña

I’ve spent more than fifty years sitting in front of the lace pillow. I learnt from my grandmother, in a small village on the Costa da Morte, when I was still a child who preferred bobbins to recess. I haven’t stopped since.

This blog is my lifelong workshop notebook, tidied up. What my grandmother taught me, what I learnt by making mistakes, what I’m still discovering today. Tutorials, patterns, stories about the craft, little tricks, whatever comes up. I tell it the way I would tell it sitting next to you: no rush, no jargon when it isn’t needed, and with the love I have for these things.

A note about the English version

I write in Spanish. The English part of the blog is done by my family — they translate when they can, as they can. So if you find an odd turn of phrase here, be patient: they’re learning.

And this website

One of my younger relatives put it together. They know nothing about bobbins but plenty about screens. It’s pretty, isn’t it? I picked the colours. They did the rest.

What about courses?

I no longer teach in person, but I wholeheartedly recommend the people at Encaixe. They have a workshop, good materials and honest service. That’s where I send people who ask me where to learn seriously.
